Your friends all have it, they are coughing and sneezing and sniffling. You try to stay away, you know what colds do to you. They make you cough more. They make you all the more tired. With that first sneeze, you know you caught it. You’re a little scared to see what this cold has in store Will it hurt to cough by the end of this? Will you be too tired to fight it off? Will it ruin your vacation? Will your CF infested lungs be able to kick its butt? This is how I feel every time I catch a cold. Its like I have to drop everything and assess how I’m doing. If I don’t fight it off, it will probably mean IV antibiotics, so I’ve become DETERMINED not to let colds amount to that. (Though even if it does, I’l deal with it!)  I caught a cold a few days ago, just in time for christmas. I started taking Zycam, a high vitamin/zinc/vitamin C supplement that can be taken 5 times a day to boost your immune system to fight off a cold. I also started doing my sinus rinses 3 times a day and drinking tons and tons of water. I kept up with my exercise to keep my heart strong but also made sure to rest and not wear myself out. And after a few days, I’m feeling a lot better. Though I do have a little cough, I’m keeping it at bay by remaining compliant with my therapies and exercise. I’ll be skiing this week and that fresh mountain air will be perfect! Where a cold used to put me on my ass, my lungs are now strong enough to fight it off because of all the running I’ve been doing. Its important to keep your body strong so when something happens to test its strength, you’re ready to fight. I am so thankful that I put the effort in previously so I can see it paying off when I really need it!
